Fall Harvest Fest: Grass Roots Organization
I volunteer my photography and services to a few local organizations as a form of social practice. I find it rewarding to do work in the community and connect with the people that make up the community in which my studio is in. Today I went out to a harvest event for Nuestras Raices, a grass roots non-profit that promotes Sustaining Agriculture, among a list of other positive and community enlightening and engaging activities. This is the third year I have photographed the harvest fest. This year was a little bit different, it wasn't at the farm, like it typically is. Today it was at their main office, in celebration of their 20th year and to thank the farmers and gardeners. Food and music brought the farmers out, with their friends and families. It was a nice afternoon. Students from UMass Amherst were there volunteering time. They are also part of a class about Nuestras. I have helped develop the website as well as other photography related activities. I am also the Art Director for the Nuestras Raices Gala and Exhibition on November 15th. Here are a few photos from the Harvest Fest today.
