We connected via blogging and have promoted each other over the last few years. I have contributed to FPR a few times since meeting him. Free Photo Resources has a lot of great content and some great interviews and features. I look forward to sharing my words, thoughts, and photos on FPR. Making Photographs: A Slow Sunday

Some lounging, some photo-graphing, some light afternoon naps, an evening stroll through the town, some mediocre burgers and lame appetizers at a local bar, and a nice end to a short weekend. Yes that about sums it up. It rained this weekend. Thank god! We didnt need any rain, at all! Ok, maybe that was a little sarcastic seeing as how drought is the new thing. But it is true, we haven't has much rain this summer and we finally had a full day of it on Saturday. Mixed with babysitting for some family members and the constant drops of rain, not much was done this weekend. I made a few photographs and got to play with a Canon 5d Mark II. I am a Nikon shooter who relies on Canon for certain applications. In my opinion, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what the brand is, so long as you get the shot, you do so in the most professional manner, and it yields the highest possible results you desire and need. That being said, I am not a devout follower to just one camera company. The way I view it, if it gives me the results I need to do my job and it goes beyond what my clients needs are, then I am satisfied. Yea, sure, there are differences between all cameras and their manufactures, but when you have a particular need and the equipment is at your finger tips, fire away and get the shot. These are just a few simple shots courtesy of a 5d II with a 50mm-er. The max I pushed the ISO was to 3200 @ 1/30 at 1.8f I saw some good results, I was pleasantly delighted. Like I said, for myself, at the end of the day so long as I get the image I need, being wedded to one type of camera isn't the prerogative.

Photographs of Cape Cod: Summer Adventures

July is going to end in a few days. Well, more like 2 days. Summers in New England progress fast. If we have an off summer, where the weather isn't the best, (rain and storms) it makes for an even faster summer. This year has been great. I have a nice tan going. I have made some great photographs. I have been on some great shoots. And I have been visiting the Cape as often as I can. (Cape Cod that is) Which includes two trips to Marthas Vineyard. Both trips to the vineyard were by foot and bike. Instead of taking a car over, my lovely girlfriend and I, first time, took our bikes over and rode around the island. It was fun, adventurous, and pleasant. The second time we went with her sister and husband. That was even more fun. If you dont plan on spending the night and are on vacation at the cape and happen to have bikes, save some money, get some exercise and explore the island by bike. You wont regret it. The images in the gallery below are from Marthas Vineyard. They are just a few of the many photos I have made this summer. They are a meer sample of what I have been working on. By the close of the season, the end of summer, and our last trip out there, I will have produced an entire series, a body of work accompanied by an essay. I currently have 12 images on display for The Easthampton Art Walk in Easthampton, MA. When we stay at the Cape, we stay in Eastham, Ma. Eastham has beautiful beaches, beautiful homes, great places to eat, and is a picturesque town to visit. Next to Eastham is the well known town of Wellfleet. An even more beautiful town with just as amazing beaches. Both Sue and I have personal history at the Cape. We both grew up vacationing there. Sue's family had a place there and I would go with my parents every summer till I reached my teen years. Then it was no more vacations for me. (Found other things to do, being a teenager and all.)

A Photographer's Eyes: A Snap Shot

Here is a teaser from a recent project.

I photographed my friends eyes. She is a photographer and has two different colored eyes. Eyes, are the gateway to our souls. We see things with our eyes. We communicate and speak with our eyes. For a photographer, eyes are more than just two objects connected to the body that are a view of the world for our brain to interpret, they are what allow photographers to see what they needs to produce an image. Vision can be manifested both as a means of the eyes, the literal being that vision is what is passed through our eyes or a means of insight, creative vision, the ability to mentally see; the mental image.

Steph's eyes are unique, as is everyones. Her eyes are special because of the different colors each has. The first time I met her I noticed the difference between the two. It wasn't until later I mentioned it. She told me it took people years to sometimes notice. That was goofy, so I thought. How could it take someone years of looking at someone else to notice something so simple as different colored eyes? Then again, I am not so surprised, as I am always being reminded of how unobservant some people can be. As a photographer, I have often found myself being able to pick up pick on little details. I am very acute to whats around me, as well as I noticed details and pre-composed images before I photograph them. That is just a part of me that has existed for as long as I can remember. I believe that to be a pivotal component in my image making and part of my "vision."

Eyes are beautiful. They are windows. They are profound sculptures of our bodies.

Wedding Photography: Bridal Fashion

As the story goes, "When a boy met a girl," and the rest is history. I find it very important to know how a bride and groom met. Their story is a very important part of their wedding day. It is after all the reason that led them to a life together, celebrated in front of friends and family, documented in a way that is unique to them. I am often captivated by the details and beautiful components of the any wedding. Each wedding is uniquely different. Even if they are in the same venues, be it the same church and reception venue, with the same caterer, nothing is ever the same. I try to create something special for each couple to make their day, their day. By this I mean I try and keep a fresh and alternating look so as no one ever ends up with the same thing as some else I have shot for. I keep a cohesive style to my shooting, but make subtle differences that make the details stand out. Just like each couple, their story, and their personalities, they are unique and deserve to be represented as such. Keep it beautiful, fresh, new, cohesive, and unique to each couple and you will make have a happy bride!
